About the Item

Signed with the earliest "Mazer Bros" signature on the silver-gilt clear-crystal-decorated metal clasp, Joseph Mazer designed this Art-Deco period gold-gilt stylized-heart link bracelet featuring faux citrines and gray diamonds. It was most likely before 1937 when former Cartier designer Marcel Boucher was his assistant, as there is resemblance to the younger designer's early wreath-and-ribbon motifs that used both silver and gold. The rhinestone and pot-metal tennis bracelet with safety chain includes characteristic Mazer Brothers curvaceous floral and heart motifs, plus glittery accents of marquise, pear and round crystals. The overall impression is of sparkling gold and silver tones among elegant sculptural links. The high-relief silvery edges among the shadows of the golden links echo the bi-color design elements most prominent around the central flower-link with grey bezel-set and yellow prong-set crystals. The Mazer brothers began producing costume jewelry together in New York City signed "Mazer Bros" in 1927, then after success hired Marcel Boucher away from Cartier in the 1930s. Like Boucher had in 1937, in 1946 Joseph Mazer went on to found his own company Jomaz, which is a reference to his first name.
